NFL Draft 2021 The quarterback announces his decision in a video on his social networks
LThe career of one of the greatest players in college football history ended Tuesday. Trevor Lawrence posted a video on his social media announcing the decision to not returning to Clemson for your final year of eligibility and it is declared eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft, where he is expected to be the first overall pick.
Lawrence came to Clemson in 2018 as one of the best prospects ever. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, he grew up a Volunteers fan, but his family moved to Georgia, where he played high school and was a five star prospect.
It was not immediately headline, as he fought for the spot the first two games with Kelly Bryant, but Dabo Swinney named him the starter for the rest of the season and this led to the Tigers winning their second national championship in this millennium, when Lawrence shone by crushing Alabama 44-16
From that moment, there was talk that he would have been the # 1 selection of the Draft if he could be eligible, but he had two more seasons to go before he could go to the NFL and in that time his legend continued to grow in Clemson.
He leaves the Tigers with 34-2 mark as a starter, fifth-best winning percentage in NCAA history. He never lost a regular season game, his two falls being in the 2020 final against LSU and in the 2021 Sugar Bowl semifinal against Ohio State.
He leaves his numbers at 66.6% complete for 10,098 yards, 90 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, and 943 yards rushing, with 18 more touchdowns. Was the second in voting for the Heisman Trophy last season despite losing a couple of games after giving positive for coronavirus.
In addition to sporting achievements, Lawrence showed great leadership qualities off the field, leading his team’s protests for racial equality after George Floyd’s death, Besides that raised funds to help food banks at the start of the pandemic and was among the most vocal players during the period when the NCAA was pondering whether to cancel the season, being one of those who most asked to want to play.
For its size and qualities, is considered the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck, so it is expected that Jaguars de Jacksonville call his name with the first pick of the next draft.
I hope my legacy at Clemson is being a good teammate and a good person, beyond football. And how I played, how I treated people is what I want to be remembered for and I think the last three years was my priority.
I learned a lot from Coach Swinney and all the coaches and staff. They treated me like family since I came here and that faith was the most important thing in my life.
To all my colleagues during these three years, it has been the most fun trip of my life. I will remember these three years for winning the national championship and winning many games, but mostly the little momentsBeing in the locker room, in practice, being together every day, laughing, enjoying life, is what I will remember the most.
Looking at my life and the path I have had, the most formative years are those I spent at Clemson. He taught me to be a better man and also a player, but that’s secondary to what I learned about being a man.. Now I am ready to face the next challenges. The best is yet to come. I am grateful and will miss him.
I want to thank everyone who supported Clemson and my family. My time here has been great and I will be a Clemson Tiger forever.
