NFL 2021 The corner intercepted 10 passes in 2020, an NFL record in the past 13 seasons
ORn big fish jumps into the market NFL at the start of training camp. Xavien Howard posted a message on Instagram explaining his discontent with the Dolphins and, after considering that the team has acted in bad faith, has asked for the change.
Howard, chosen by Miami in the second round of the 2016 Draft, signed in 2019 a contract extension for 5 years and 75.25 million, but considers that he has exceeded what was requested and deserves an adjustment of his agreement, something that the team has not wanted to do, so he asks for the change.
a great CB of an absolutely crazy 2020 season with 10 interceptions

In the first two seasons of the new deal, Howard has 11 interceptions, second in the NFL. 10 of the interceptions came in 2020, the first player in double digits since Antonio Cromartie in 2007. According to Professional football reference, allowed 51.5% of passes to be completed, eleventh best in 2020.
Howard’s biggest annoyance seems to be Miami paying Byron Jones more (5 years, 82.5 million signed in 2020 free agency) and that exceeds the production of the former Cowboys corner. By 2021, four cornerbacks will have a greater impact against the salary cap than Howard’s 13.5 million (Stephone Gilmore 16.27, Jones 16.1, Trae Waynes 15.8 and Joe Haden 15.58)
I have given my heart and soul to the Miami Dolphins franchise since I was chosen in 2016, and I want to make it clear that I love my teammates. They are my family. But what I’ve learned in the NFL business is that organizations do not always prioritize the interests of the player.
My experience with the Dolphins in recent seasons taught me that. In 2018 I signed a contract extension that I admit I did not fully understand and did not feel comfortable with. I have played under that contract for two seasons without complaining, but everyone knows that I have performed better..
I’m one of the best corners in the NFL and the video backs it up. The assignments I’ve been given, following the opponent’s best player with little help, show my worth, what I’m worth, but still I am the second highest paid corner of my own team and it’s not even close.
I want to clear up some misunderstandings about my situation. My agent David Canter and I have never asked for a new contract. We want to fix things with the Dolphins and we proposed solutions, like more money guaranteed, which we believe are win-win situations for both parties. The adjustment proposals would not only make me feel more respected, but they were also salary cap friendly.. But the Dolphins turned down everything we asked for.
That is why I do not believe that the organization negotiated in good faith. I don’t feel valued or respected by the Dolphins. Just as they prioritized the business, so did I.
That is why I want to make it clear that I do not feel satisfied and I have asked for a change. Until the change happens, I will be here to avoid being fined and I will behave like the professionals do.
