Temperatures will drop in Mexico due to two cold fronts and a polar air mass

The National Metereological Service (SMN) reported that this Wednesday, January 26, it will enter Mexican territory cold front number 25. It will extend over the border area of Sonora and Chihuahua and it will be short lived. Among its effects, the strong winds that are expected in the north of Coahuila.

In this way, a frontal system will hit the east, while the other will affect the north. And in the middle, there will be the mass of polar air that drives the cold front 24, and that will leave frigid environment in most of the Republic.

“It will maintain a cold to very cold environment in the northwest, north, northeast, west, center and east of the territory, with frost during the morning of Wednesday over entities of the Mesa del Norte and Mesa Central, with extremely cold temperatures in the mountains of Chihuahua and Durango and morning fog banks in the northeast, east, center, south and southeast, ”explained the climate agency.

The lowest records are expected in the mountainous areas of Chihuahua and Durango, with values ​​that will move between -10 and -5ºC. Thermometers will also drop below 0ºC in mountainous areas of Baja California, Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Zacatecas and the State of Mexico, being able to mark even down to -5ºC.

In addition, the minimum will be very cold in the upper parts of Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Morelos, Mexico City, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas. In those states, values ​​of 0 to 5ºC are expected during the coldest hours.

According to the SMN forecast, no snowfall is expected today, but it will be recorded rainfall in 17 entities. The strongest will be caused by the cold front 24 and will occur in the eastern and southeastern states. For its part, the humidity from the Pacific and Atlantic oceans will cause showers and isolated rains in other parts of the national territory.

Thus, the largest accumulated will fall into Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco, Oaxaca and Chiapas, with strong records that could reach up to 50 millimeters. In Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, showers of up to 25 millimeters are forecast, while in Guanajuato, Querétaro, Michoacán and Guerrero the accumulations will be lighter and punctual.

As for the winds, the most intense gusts will be registered in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, where they could reach 70 kilometers per hour. Likewise, in Baja California and Coahuila they will go from 50 to 60 km/h.

Climate in CDMX

In the country’s capital, the sky will remain partly cloudy during the day, with no possibility of rain. During the afternoon, the atmosphere will be mild, but at sunrise Thursday January 27, temperatures could fall below 5ºC, especially in the mayor’s offices located in the south and west of the city. In the rest of the state, the minimum will range from 9 to 11ºC. The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) asked the population to keep abreast of updates to the Early Warning System.
