LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anthony Davis scored 30 points, Carmelo Anthony had 24 and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Portland Trail Blazers 99-94 on Wednesday night.
Davis had 19 of his points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the final 12 minutes of the Lakers’ triumphant return to their stadium after a 2-4 East Coast road trip. The center, chosen for the All-Star Game, has an average of 29.3 points in his last three games.
Los Angeles started the fourth quarter down 75-72, but took control of the game thanks to an 8-1 run. After a triple by Norman Powell that tied the score at 89-89 with 2:44 left, the locals regained control thanks to six consecutive points from Davis that gave them a 95-89 lead with 52 seconds left.
Powell led the Trail Blazers with 30 points and tied his career high for the season with five 3-pointers. Anfernee Simons added 19 and Jusuf Nurkic posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Portland suffered its third straight loss and fifth in its last six games.
