Chiefs: Ronald Jones reveals Brett Veach’s post-Tyreek Hill plan in a nutshell

March 28, 2022

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has a plan for how to use Ronald Jones on a new-look offense that no longer has Tyreek Hill a part of it.

Ronald Jones believes his offensive skill set will translate over marvelously into the revamped Kansas City Chiefs offense.

Jones comes over to the perennial AFC contenders by way of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his NFL free agency. He spent his whole pro career in Tampa Bay, but is very excited about the opportunities ahead of him in the Kansas City offense. Though general manager Brett Veach traded away Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, Jones cannot want to get to work in Kansas City.

Look for the new-look Chiefs offense to be a tad more ground-centric with Jones now in the fold.

While losing a dynamic playmaker like Hill to a newfound contending team in the AFC in Miami is not ideal, it gives the Chiefs a great opportunity to reinvent itself offensively with a new identity. Keep in mind that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is a running back at heart. Jones comes over to the Chiefs in his second contract looking to prove himself after being expendable in Tampa Bay.

It will take some time for Patrick Mahomes and company to adjust to life without Hill in the receiving corps. In the meantime, look for him to lean more on the ground game to open up the pass for many new faces at wide receiver, such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling or whoever the Chiefs could add in the next few drafts with all the compensation they got from the Hill trade.

Ultimately, there is a lot of pressure on the Chiefs across the board this year. Not to say their Super Bowl window has closed, but the AFC seems to have caught up to them, especially in the division. Kansas City can absolutely go out and prove everyone wrong with a run to Super Bowl 57 in Glendale. However, they have to be more creative offensively now that they no longer have Hill.

Look for Jones to get plenty of touches out of the Chiefs backfield as a key acquisition for them.
