Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins passed away last weekend in heartbreaking news for football fans everywhere. His wife, Kalabrya Haskins, thanked fans for their support.
The 24-year-old Haskins was killed after being hit by a vehicle while walking on the side of a highway. He was spending the weekend with a few of his Steelers teammates in Florida.
The circumstances surrounding Haskins’ death still remain a bit of a mystery, but the sad fact remains that a man with so much promise — not just on the field, but off of it as well — has been taken far too soon.
“I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to every loving soul who has supported our family during this arduous time of loss,” Kalabrya Haskins said. “The overwhelming thoughts and prayers have been fuel for our emotional depletion. All of your blessings have been greatly valued and appreciated.”
Steelers Nation flocked to support Haskins’ family
Steelers fan in particular made the Haskins family feel at home in their brief time in Pittsburgh. It’s a sad time for both parties, of course, as the Haskins family grieves and celebrates the life of Dwayne, and Steelers fans mourn the loss of one of their own.
Not only did Dwayne have promise as a quarterback — he was in position to perhaps compete for the starting job this offseason with Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph — but he brought a contagious laughter to the Steelers locker room that was appreciated by his teammates and coaches alike.
“My husband was more than a great football player,” Kalabrya continued. “He had the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many. He will forever rest and remain in our hearts til the end o time. His enternal love will always reside with us, Ohio State, Washington Commanders and Steelers Nation for eternity!”
May he never be forgotten.
